Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB)
Minju Choi is a postdoctoral research fellow in Global Sociology at the WZB. Her research focuses on how macro-cultural forces shape societies, including the changing legitimacy of education as an institution. Her dissertation research focused on three cultural logics upholding mass education, mainly human rights, human capital, and (non-)citizenship. With a conceptual interest in the tensions arising from these multiple visions for schooling, Minju has examined discursive changes to education reforms, social science textbooks, and national constitutions. Her work has been published in Comparative Education Review, International Sociology, Sociology of Education, among others. She received her PhD in International and Comparative Education / Sociology of Education from Stanford University. Prior to her doctoral studies, Minju worked in the Education Global Practice at the World Bank, as well as other international organizations like UNESCO and UNICEF.
